As many of you know cards come on and off ban lists for advanced and traditional, but these ban, limited and semi-limited really have nothing to do with us unlimited players. But there is something that does affect us and the something is what they call errata. But the definition of errata is a list of corrected errors in printing. That is not what they do at Konami, at Konami to errata is to make the card not as potent. There are many cards that have many “errata” text bu on February third of 2016 a new errata list was released, and it's a doozie.
The old text and new text can be found here
There might be some of the unlimited player base that would say that it doesn't matter what Konami “errata” because their card's text is the original, but the fact of the matter is that these cards are not grandfathered over, instead the cards are to be played with the new “errata” text. Some of us play on dueling network and others play on ygopro (or other digital formats). The cards on these digital playing fields use the new “errata” text, changing how decks containing errata cards play.
Though Konami had the regional Millennium championship before 2003, in 2003 the World Championship was born, and so was the first ban list. Upon creation of the tournament format Konami set its sights on creating a competitive industry, and their trading card game changed to fit this. This left any players outside of their competitor formats in the dust. This is where “errata” comes into play. Cards are changed to be less potent either to remove current cards from ban the list, or keeping new cards from being put on it. This does not necessarily benefit the community as a whole as it can potentially harm the unlimited format and perhaps a card's text should be left as it were originally printed
Writer's Thoughts:
I strongly urge you as unlimited players to speak up for your community, tell Konami what you think and speak out about your own opinions.
